A, G & J
(2025)
I was born December 11th, 2002, in Guatemala. Five months later, I was brought to Angela and Gregory Torres to then journey to the United States with them. Since then, I’ve lived in two states and a district, traveled around the world, became their daughter, and eventually an older sister. However, as children we often forget our parents were once, like us, twenty-two years old. Both Angela and Gregory were separate entities until they met each other in Scotland in the 1980s. It was then they became Angela and Gregory, and they lived this way for nearly twenty years before the idea of me. Their stories and memories are then passed on to my younger sister and I. In A, G & J, I selected photos from my family’s archives between the 1940s and the 2020s to unearth photographs of them before I was born. Along with the archive, I’ve been documenting both of them in the present at our current home in Virginia, a place where all of us have grown as individuals. These are all moments exhibited by me, us and them. I chose to curate a collection of photographs of them because they play such an important part in my life and have shaped me into the person I am presently. This is my representation of our bonds, formed by our love for each other.
